Homesick

Aussie aussie aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi!

I cheered the Wallabies during the world cup final, I cheered the cricketers in the cricket world cup, and I cheered the socceroos on as they beat Uruguay to qualify for the world cup. Due to Singapore's lack of international success in the sporting arena, I guess I latched on to Australia as my home team. It certainly helped that Australia is a sporting mad country. I remember watching the rugby world cup finals at home, and each time Australia scored a try the entire apartment complex I stayed at erupted in cheers. And when England won the match, I could hear my neighbours burst into a rousing, slightly off-key rendition of the waltzing matilda in support of our team who threw everything at England but wltimately lost to Wilkinson's left boot.

But I digress. I'm not sure if Australia can get past the group stages but yesterday was definitely their day. And I will always have a soft spot for the country I called home for 4 years. Advance Australia Fair....
